Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That

From Etsy’s Terms of Use:

Etsy reserves the right to modify or terminate the Etsy service for any reason, without notice, at any time. Etsy reserves the right to alter these Terms of Use or other Site policies at any time, so please review the policies frequently. If Etsy makes a material change Etsy will notify you here, by email, by means of a notice on our home page, or other places Etsy deems appropriate. What constitutes a “material change” will be determined at Etsy’s sole discretion, in good faith, and using common sense and reasonable judgment.

What Does It Mean?

From a practical standpoint, it means that Etsy can at any time change its’ Terms of Use, policies, the way its’ site operates, the way features work, remove features, add features, and test features without notifying you first. Etsy will, of course, use common sense when making changes or testing site features.

Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That

dead-endIt also means you could find yourself and your business in this situation at any given moment:  A customer notifies you they are unable to complete a purchase from your shop because Paypal is not working.  You contact Paypal who says “no problems here, must be Etsy.”  You contact Etsy support through email or convo and wait for a reply. Then you realize, it is the weekend, and there is no Etsy support on the weekend. So you post in the forums to see if any other members can help you out, only to find they can’t help, because they are experiencing the same problem, and no one has an answer. Meanwhile your customer, if you are lucky,  is sitting there waiting to check out; other customers may also be “checking out,” but not in the way you had hoped.  This problem persists throughout the weekend.

On Monday morning, Etsy Administration is met with a band of frustrated sellers demanding to know what the heck is going on. Etsy Administration announces they can’t find anything on their end; don’t know what the problem is. Then…………uh oh!  Found the problem. Seems somebody somewhere within Etsy was playing around with the computers again, testing they call it, and well, pushed the “No Paypal” button and….there you are. Now, shut-up and get back to work!
