Etsy Sweeps Black Milk Counterfeiter Under the Rug; & More Questions Than Answers

The Etsy Black Milk counterfeit shop is now on vacation.  Rusetsy wonders if this was a voluntary or involuntary vacation?? Will the shop soon reopen with “Black Milk” deleted from listings?

What about the profits Etsy received from the 171 illegal sales of fake designer goods from this shop? What becomes of those profits? Do they remain in the big Etsy pocket? Or are those proceeds turned over to the authentic Black Milk company? or to legal authorities?

What about the profits from past illegal sales of fake designer goods? All those previously swept under the rug? Where did those profits go?

Is Etsy accountable to no one for continuously allowing counterfeiters to set up shop and sell illegal goods on the site?

If this issue was a real concern to Etsy, would it not spend more time looking for counterfeiters and less time targeting independent makers to prove handmade legitimacy?

Rusetsy is only one person and over the past few days has pointed out numerous counterfeits. Doesn’t Etsy have an entire team dedicated to site integrity??  Does lawfulness not fall under the Etsy definition of integrity?

I am perplexed.

I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY. I AM AN INDIVIDUAL. MY INTERPRETATION OF THE LAW MAY BE WRONG. THE OPINION IN THIS POST IS SPECULATIVE ONLY.

Etsy’s Black Milk

I had never heard of Black Milk Clothing until mentioned in the Etsy forums, so Rusetsy went over to the clothing brand’s site and read up. The story behind the brand sounds much like what Etsy would have us believe is their target seller – independent designer/maker, unique, trendy, quality product, and a great story. Yet, Etsy is not attracting these successful independent designer/makers; it is attracting those who ripoff original designers by copying designs and marketing fakes as originals. Here is Etsy’s Black Milk, who has enjoyed 166 sales in only two months time. Sales from which Etsy has profited.

In case you are not aware, selling counterfeit goods is illegal in the U.S. and according to this article, counterfeiting costs U.S. businesses $250 billion a year; 750,000 U.S. jobs have been lost because of counterfeiting. While U.S. Customs is daily battling counterfeits coming into the U.S., Etsy seems to be welcoming them with open arms (as a matter of opinion, of course.)

I wonder. Will Etsy allow U.S. Customs to use the “C” word when they come a’callin’?

Wizard in Training

Just think of this post as Rusetsy in wizard training…. it may work… it may not.

Now, stand back and Rusetsy will make this listing for a fake Dolce & Gabbana bag disappear before your very eyes:

…..listing be gone!!

If the magic works, not only will the listing disappear, but so will any sold listings for the fake bag.

Keep in mind. This is training only, so some things do not happen instantaneously. It may take a few hours… a day…. but…

watch for it….

Don’t know, but would imagine Etsy could find itself in hot water over allowing fake designer goods to be sold on the site. Don’t think they could plead ignorance…  if lone little me can find all these illegal goods, surely someone from the Integrity Team could find them. If they wanted to, of course.

Etsy Disappearing Acts

There is some crazy shit are some strange going-ons over in Etsyville today… things are …. poof!…disappearing…

Read the update to Rusety’s post Knock it Off With the Knock-Offs. Better hurry…. before more gets swept under the rug of the magic happens.

UPDATE: And remember the shop from the Anything Goes post? One of their sold items…..poof! gone.
