Copycat Thieves Taking Over Etsy

This is outrageous! This much-deserved call out will soon be swept aside by Etsy; but Rusetsy intends it to stand. These thieves will not remain anonymous. It appears the same person (or entity) has opened several shops and flooded the Etsy marketplace (and search) with stolen designs (and photos) by this seller and others while also undercutting the original designer’s prices. All of these shops are from China which fact will most probably be scrubbed from the forum post.

All of these shops should be shut down by Etsy and there should be no second chance. This is not copyright infringement or trademark infringement by accident or ignorance; this is blatant thievery and should not be tolerated.

Instead of closing down the thread (which will soon happen), Etsy Administration should be closing down the shops.

Juicy Questions

It has been interesting to watch some of the shops and items Rusetsy has called out being pulled from Etsy. Coincidence? Or does Rusetsy have a reader from Brooklyn?

There is one shop Rusetsy called out that, disappointed to say, is still up and running….because…

wouldn’t want to miss out on that little fee, now would we?

I am almost certain Etsy is aware of the existence of this shop… because how else would a sold listing photo get deleted????

Why would Etsy go so far as to delete a sold listing photo??

Maybe the missing sold listing was the same as the missing active listing…. a Juicy Couture sweatshirt?  If so, why would Etsy want to sweep it under the rug that it profited from the sale of a Juicy Couture sweatshirt?  Etsy doesn’t normally delete sold listings.

Is it because Authentic Brands Group, the owner (recent buyer) of Juicy Couture, tolerates no copyright infringers?

Or. Is Etsy trying to protect the Juicy Couture brand, and if so, why

This one has Rusetsy stumped.

A Matter of Time

Wonder what Coach would think about the use of its logo on this lovely little watch, and the use of its’ name to sell it?  Or the use of its signature fabric replicated on this phone case? You can keep a watch (pun intended) on these two items that are sure to soon disappear from Etsy.

But what about those shops that have profited from stolen artwork from other Etsy sellers? Will they be shut down? I have followed with interest the happenings of one such shop as several sellers have expressed frustration and disgust at Etsy allowing it to remain open after stealing Etsians artwork for printing on pillow covers. Although the infringing listings were taken down, the shop remains open where it continues to sell what may be infringing items.

Why the double standard? M.O.N.E.Y.

Most Etsy artists don’t have the financial means to go after copyright and trademark infringers. But the big boys like Coach do. And will.

It’s only a matter of time.

Tory Burch Would Not Be Happy

Tory Burch, like most designers, would not be happy with counterfeit Tory Burch merchandise being sold on Etsy. In fact, a 2011 New York Federal Court settlement gives the company “the power to disable future websites that pop up offering similar fake goods,” according to this article.

Here is a small sampling of Tory Burch merchandise for sale (or sold) on Etsy:
