“D” Word Banned from Etsy

We know what becomes of those threads that say the “C“(hina) word; now Etsy has banned another word from its’ forums – the “D” word. And what is the “D” word, you ask? “D“ouglas Erwin.

Douglas Erwin is a former Etsy seller who gained a reputation with his Etsy peers as intelligent, funny, helpful, interesting, insightful… Douglas, not afraid to speak his mind (which he does delightfully on his blog), was muted from the Etsy forums for speaking too loudly (reasonably).  One of Douglas’s Etsy friends recently posted that she missed Douglas and his opinions which led to the suggestion by another member that Douglas be nominated as an Etsy Community Mentor for all the work he has done helping others within the Etsy community. This discussion further led to someone mentioning where Douglas could now be found (over at his blog), but no live link was posted.

On a side note, remember those disgusting and very graphic “rape t-shirt” forum threads that went on and on and on and on for days and days on end? Well not the We Love Douglas thread! Etsy killed it within about twenty seconds.

Not only is Douglas himself banned from the Etsy forums, but Etsy members are now banned from ever saying his name.

Etsy. Damn fools.

  1. Thank you for posting this, Doug had a very good article on his blog today. Your comparison to the rape thread was spot on. I went back and reread the forum guidelines and could see no reason why it was closed down in less than 5 minutes. Hey they leave countless threads open discussing Zibbet and other websites with actual links that are totally left alone. I think that fact that members of the community wanted to anoint him really got to them.

  2. And there’s “Anee’ and her smug little mug. The key words here are the subtle switch to demands for constructive and respectful posts for Etsy and ADMINISTRATION. Note how we’ve now segued into protecting ADMINISTRATION. Neat trick Anee … how do you sleep with that conscience?

  3. Mentioning deletion of posts or muted community members in the forums can get you muted. I was temp muted (now indef muted) for making a comment wondering why two posts from nice, professional and helpful community members were missing from a thread. Nothing snide or snarky. Just wondering if there had been a mistake. Etsy can never be wrong. All the admins are infallible, like the Pope.

  4. Talking about Anee and her smug smile…has anyone noticed Robs avatar and how closely he resembles the old Red Skelton character ‘Clem Kadiddlehopper’…every time Rob closes a thread and I see that stupid pic of him grabbing his hat – I just want to scream. What a maroon!

      • You know I AM older and some things I look at with an older persons perspective and (I hope) wisdom. I love younger people and most of my friends are anywhere from 10 to 20 years younger than me. My 25 year old grand daughter is my best friend. But these phonies that they have running etsy not only want to “curate” etsy they want to curate our lives as well. Sorry but I am too old to let anyone run my life like that and when my listings run out on that miserable site I am gone!
